Animated Stories (inspiration is the Best Motivation)

The Spoken Word project uses spoken words as a site for identity-making through storytelling that explores moments, events, or people of inspiration. The project is designed to use collective literacy practices to build reading, writing, sharing, and reflecting skills.

The Animated Stories mural was a joint project with a spoken word artist. Students wrote responses to the prompt: “what inspires you?” The artist and students worked together to combine the writings into a creative poetic form.

The mural’s design is build around the word “creative.” The picture starts from students reading a book titled Inspiration with the reading becoming animated and the students’ words pop out of the book and come to life. The overall goal of the project was to promote creative writing and literacy in a fun way.
