From the Mountains; Become the Wind. (Phases 1 and 2)

From the Mountains; Become the Wind. (Phases 1 and 2) by artist Andréa Grasso is a translucent cut-vinyl window installation at the East Market development in Center City Philadelphia. This project is part of an ongoing series at East Market with multiple artists and multiple art forms and installation locations. This project will be up until the space is both renovated and leased, which is expected to be 1-3 years. This cut-vinyl window mural installation is consists of layers of translucent vinyl that appears differently by day and night, and whether or how the space is backlit (or not). The design is abstract but inspired by the ‘winds of change’. A cascading wind from the mountains that flows in and around all that it touches. The design is meant to push and pull the viewer through the space, to both block off the construction site behind it, and to enliven a ‘dead’ corner. On the left side, the design tapers into the space, and also allows visibility so that it is not a ‘blind corner’. It was designed with the architecture of the building of the building in mind and was colored by request with East Market’s branding and color scheme.
