Latinoamerica: Una Lengua, Multiples Culturas (Latin America: One Language, Many Cultures)

Latinoamerica: Una Lengua, Multiple Culturas (also called Maria’s Grocery) by artist Jose Ali Paz is located in the Fairhill neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Painted on the side of a small local grocery store (Maria Grocery) this mural represented the more than 16 different Hispanic cultural groups in Philadelphia. This mural was the first collaboration between two Venezuelan artists Jose Ali Paz and Henry Bermudez. Pictured in the mural are recognizable historic figures like political leader Simón Bolivar, labor leader Cesar Chavez, and poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral. Also depicted are dancers, tropical plants and birds, and a map of Central and South America to illustrate the diversity of Hispanic culture.
