Pathfinder in the Sun

Pathfinder in the Sun by artist Josh Sarantitis is located in the University City neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This mural was dedicated to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Horizon House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of people with mental disabilities and mental illness. The mural is located on the wall of the courtyard on the Horizon House headquarters. This central image of a hand is symbolic of the Horizon’s House ability to reach out and help those in need of their services. The sun has an internal maze—symbolic of people finding their way. The theme of “pathfinder” comes from a Native American legend of a finding one’s path along a journey.

Location Note: This mural is no longer on view at this location. It was retired in 2012 and replaced by a new mural, Finding the Light Within.
