The Gallery storefront/window murals at Center City/Market East (1985)
The Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network worked over several years with The Gallery, a mall in Center City Philadelphia. Murals were created and installed in the windows of empty storefronts. Over the course of the program, several hundred children worked with PAGN artists to create images showing what the store could become, including imagery like sneakers or other clothing or even abstract murals.
Murals painted by the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network (PAGN), a City agency and the precursor to the Mural Arts Program, were created with the goal of transforming graffiti writers’ talents into positive community arts initiatives. Read more about Mural Arts’ history here.
Location Note: Murals no longer on view at this location (dates of removal unknown).
