The Petal Procession (Philadelphia Museum of Art)

Artist Lindsay Bedford’s The Petal Procession was installed at the iconic steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from June 16-19, 2023. This iteration of The Petal Procession evolved from the artist’s 2022 version of this project at South Philly’s Percy Street. A petal procession is most often seen at a wedding or ceremony of love. Bedford originally created a visually exaggerated Petal Procession on the 1300 Block of South Percy Street to guide the movement of those looking to commemorate love. After connecting with a Percy Street Project neighbor and board member, the artist recognized they both shared experiences of love at Percy Street, as did many other Philadelphians. This experience inspired her to create this environment that celebrates love and public street art. This version of the project at another iconic Philadelphia destination is a continued celebration of public art and design in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.
