Untitled (mural by Steve Powers, aka ESPO, at 1748 Sansom Street)

This mural, which was removed in 2022, rose about two stories and included many references to Philadelphia and Rittenhouse Square history, including:
-Mütter Museum, Philly’s famed medical history museum
-Frank Furness, one of Philadelphia’s most notable architects
-Project HOME, the nationally recognized non-profit that provides housing, opportunities for employment, medical care, and education to homeless and low-income persons in Philadelphia
-American composer and Curtis Institute alumni Leonard Bernstein
-Nina Simone, who famously auditioned for, but was not accepted into the Curtis Institute. “[Nina] was rejected, not because of her skill, but because she was black,” explains Nina’s daughter in a 2015 Philadelphia Magazine article.
Location Note: Mural is no longer on view at this location (deaccessioned in 2022).
