William Penn Treaty

William Penn Treaty was painted by the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network onto the I-95 exit ramp support wall in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. An idyllic representation of the Treaty of Shackamaxon between what was to be the colony of Pennsylvania and Lenape (Delaware) Nation. Like many treaties signed at this time the document paved the way for the eventual removal of the Lenape from the lands they stewarded as settlers moved onto them encroaching on treaty boundaries and increasing tensions.

Location Note: Mural no longer on view at this location (removed ca. 2010).
