Construction of Style Opening Celebration

Join Mural Arts Philadelphia for an immersive outdoor exhibit celebrating the development of graffiti style. The project uplifts some of the many Philadelphia-based wall writers who influenced global graffiti culture in the late 1960s—a legacy that has inspired the adjacent, large-scale collaborative work by 11 local artists.

Construction of Style will open with a celebration featuring live painting, food, and music, as well as an immersive audio tour by Professor Amina Tawasil of Columbia University’s School of Anthropology. The dedication coincides with the 55th anniversary of the Imperial Casanova Persuaders (ICP) Graffiti Club, the first and longest-running graffiti crew in the world.

Curated by Phil Asbury, Construction of Style is a collaborative outdoor exhibition exploring the development of the modern graffiti artform and paying homage to pioneering Philadelphia graffiti writers, including Cornbread, Cool Earl, Tity, Sub, Cone ICP, and Lewis. The exhibit features work designed by Dawud Anyabwile (BrothaMan Comics), Sew SM, Imse, Saoka, Distort BAMC, Esteme, Busta, Rew, Diana Gonzalez, Efrain Herrera, and Kien Nguyen.

Entrance and free parking at the corner of N. 2nd St. and Willow St., on Willow.
