Germantown Walking Tour and Film Screening featuring Sun Ra Arkestra
Please join Mural Arts Philadelphia and Soul Fly Club for a cultural afternoon featuring Sun Ra Arkestra. This partnership will combine film, public art, local history and community engagement to create an accessible cultural experience that celebrates Germantown’s artistic legacy through a unique lens creating a full-circle connection between Germantown’s artistic landscape and Sun Ra’s lasting influence on Philadelphia’s creative communities.
The day will begin with a one-hour mural tour through Germantown, highlighting murals and public artworks connected to the neighborhood’s cultural history including In the Orbit of Ra, the newest mural addition to the area honoring this jazz legend. The tour will end with a screening of Sun Ra: Do the Impossible, an 84-minute documentary (1 hour and 24 minutes) exploring the life, work, and legacy of the legendary Philadelphia musician and Afrofuturist artist. Light snacks and drinks provided during the screening.
