Jesse Bermudez Tribute Mural Dedication

Please join us at Taller Puertorriqueño for an evening of live music, reflection, and celebration as we dedicate a new mural honoring Jesse Bermudez, a pillar of Philly’s Latin music scene and trailblazing community advocate.

Created in collaboration with Bermudez’s widow, Daisy Bermudez; curator Marángeli Mejía-Rabell; and lead muralist Betsy Casañas, this mural in North Philadelphia celebrates Bermudez’s contributions as co-founder of Siempre Salsa Philly and Asociación de Artistas y Musicos Latinoamericanos (AMLA), a nationally renowned Latin music school and arts organization.

Come celebrate Bermudez’s enduring legacy with a special performance by Latin jazz ensemble Orquesta Akokán. You’ll also have a chance to hear from partners who made the project possible: Councilperson Quetcy Lozada’s office, Taller Puertorriqueño, Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM), and CAICU.

A talented performer, producer, and champion of Latin music, Bermudez founded Asociación de Artistas y Musicos Latinoamericanos (AMLA) to expand access to Latin music and culture and improve working conditions for Latine musicians. His commitment to making Latin music accessible continues today through AMLA at Esperanza, which provides personalized music instruction and creates opportunities for the next generation of Latine musicians in Philadelphia.
