Our Community Murals Department is deeply rooted in Mural Arts’ beginnings as a grassroots platform and maintains a commitment to amplifying the voices of Philadelphia Citizens through public art. We collaborate with community members and city agencies to imagine and implement projects that build social capital, nurture a sense of communal ownership over space, represent diversity, and empower people through art, regardless of skill level.

Community Mural projects often highlight important figures, moments and movements  relating to Philadelphia’s rich history. We design processes that aim to provide community members with the tools and creative space to translate their stories into public art projects that can be lasting educational tools and affirmations of community identity.

The resulting artworks bring together neighbors and new friends, lifting up our leaders and heroes—visual reminders of who we are, who we have been, and where we are going.
