Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Service Center (PJJSC) Mural Dedication
Join us at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Service Center (PJJSC) to celebrate the completion of seven murals. Youth at PJJSC collaborated with Teaching Artists Nicole Rodrigues, Neill Catangay, Dyymond Whipper-Young, Arshayla Robinson, and Nevaeh Ryals to co-design wayfinding entryway murals that rename six of the center’s pods after notable public figures from Philadelphia. Inspired by the legacies of Will Smith, Paul Robeson, Jill Scott, Joe Frazier, Bernard Hopkins, and Hank Gathers, the murals incorporate inspirational quotes that honor each figure’s impact.
In addition, a large-scale mural for PJJSC’s courtyard “Healing Garden” space will be dedicated. Designed by Visiting Artist Calo Rosa with design assistance from PJJSC youth, the mural draws on themes of nature and tranquility. It visually connects the garden’s koi pond and meditation garden, creating a communal space for reflection.
